Dear Friends and web browsers, When I looked at these pictures for the first time, it made me think of war pictures I had seen showing a bombed church... The basilica is also in a really pitiful condition. . The vault has been litterally sliced open by one of the bells who landed on the organ console. The damage was estimated at nearly 6 Million French Francs. Some of it is covered by insurance, but the franchise and obsolescence clause leaves the church with a debt of nearly 1.5 Million French Francs. Please help our Church Support Group. Click here. It is a great tragedy in the organ world to lose an instrument in such an unexpected way. Even if it is not the greatest of all organs, (a very tired old Roethinger dating from 1948). The restoration work will take two or three years and I hope that a brand new instrument will come out of it!
